         The D.I.V.E.R. Foundation’s 1st Annual Sebastian Inlet Lobster Mayhem is an exciting event celebrating lobster diving while promoting environmental conservation and resilience among veterans and first responders. This thrilling event brings together diving enthusiasts to showcase their skills and engage in friendly competition. Alongside the excitement, the foundation raises awareness about marine conservation efforts, educating attendees on the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. Additionally, the event provides a platform for veterans and first responders to connect, fostering camaraderie and promoting personal growth. Through this unique blend of sport, conservation, and community, the Lobster Mayhem embodies the foundation’s commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing resilience among those who have served.

Contest Rules

1. Eligibility:

a. The FL Lobster Contest (the “Contest”) is open to individuals who comply with the applicable fishing regulations and have a valid Florida recreational saltwater fishing license.

b. Contestants must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by a legal guardian if under the age of 16.

c. Participants must agree to abide by all the rules and regulations set forth by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Contest organizers.

 

2. Contest Dates and Location

a. The Contest will take place July 25-29, 2022

b. The location of the Contest will be at Captain Hiram’s Resort, Sebastian, FL.

 

3. Entry Requirements:

a. Participants must register for the Contest prior to the designated start time.

b. All participants must possess a valid Florida recreational saltwater fishing license and comply with all state fishing regulations.

c. Each participant is responsible for providing their own fishing gear and equipment.

 

4. Catch Limit and Species:

a. The Contest is focused on the capture and measurement of spiny lobsters (Panulirus argus) within the legal size limits set by the FWC.

b. Participants are responsible for knowing and adhering to the specific size and bag limits determined by the FWC.

 

5. Scoring and Measurements:

a. Scoring will be based on the total weight of the spiny lobsters, measured from the rear of the eye socket to the posterior edge of the carapace.

b. Only live, legal-sized lobsters will be eligible for measurement and scoring.

c. All lobsters must be presented to the official measuring station during the designated check-in period.

 

6. Safety and Responsible Fishing:

a. Participants must adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations while engaged in the Contest.

b. Proper diving and snorkeling practices, including the use of dive flags, must be followed to ensure participant safety.

c. Participants are responsible for the humane and ethical handling of lobsters, avoiding unnecessary harm or damage to the animals or their habitat.

 

7. Prizes and Awards:

a. Prizes will be awarded based on the highest scoring lobsters measured during the Contest.

b. The exact prize structure and categories will be determined and announced prior to the start of the Contest.

 

8. Liability:

a. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver and release form before participating in the Contest, acknowledging the risks associated with lobster diving and releasing the Contest organizers and sponsors from any liability.

b. Participants are responsible for their own personal safety, actions, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

 

9. Disqualification:

a. Any participant found to be in violation of the Contest rules or applicable fishing regulations will be subject to disqualification.

b. Disqualification may occur if a participant engages in unsafe behavior or conducts themselves in a manner that is detrimental to the Contest or the welfare of marine life.

 

10. Changes and Amendments:

a. The Contest organizers reserve the right to make changes or amendments to the rules, regulations, or prizes of the Contest if necessary. Any such changes will be communicated to the participants in a timely manner.
